Canada Post continues to support Library Materials

Canada Post continues to support Canadian libraries by providing reduced postal rates when mailing Library Materials to their users and other libraries.

On September 12, 2022, Canada Post will increase the rates for Library Materials by a
weighted average of 4.8%.

Even with the increase, the rates continue to be substantially lower than Canada Post’s most discounted commercial parcel rates. A 1.28-kg package mailed within Toronto at the Library Materials rate today costs $1.60 to cover sending and returning the materials; this will increase to $1.68 in September 2022. Without the Library Materials rate, the same service would cost approximately $31.17 if mailed at a post office.

Canada Post does not receive government compensation for this service.

Canada Post is committed to continue working with the library community – through the Canadian Urban Libraries Council (CULC) and the Federation des milieux documentaires (FMD) – to ensure their needs are understood and considered in the future.
